What is a child theme?

In WordPress, a child theme is a kind of sub-theme that enables you to customize the appearance of your site.

Indeed, if you directly modify the code of your theme and an update is done, you’ll lose everything you’ve added (and believe me, you don’t want that to happen to you).

It is therefore essential to create a child theme to properly customize a WordPress site.

Why was this tool created?

Creating a child theme is relatively simple for a developer but WPMarmite is aware that it is not so easy when you are just starting out.

It is to help you create child themes in 2 clicks that we have set up this generator.

How does it work?

All you have to do is enter the URL of the site you want to customize and click on the “Generate Child Theme” button.

If your site isn’t online yet, click on the link below the button and enter the folder name of your parent theme. Please note that it is very important to respect upper and lower case for this to work.

After that, all you have to do is download and install your child theme.

Please note that if you install a child theme on an existing site, you may lose some settings. That’s why it’s best to install one from the start.
