Taxonomies are thematic groups that allow to classify and prioritize the content. There are two default types of taxonomies in WordPress: categories and tags.

Pages do not have taxonomies. However, a post must be linked to a category. Tags are optional. Categories can be prioritized by defining parent and child categories. A parent category includes all the articles classified in a child category.

To create, edit, organize and delete taxonomies, go to the menu Posts > Categories or Posts > Tags.

Depending on the theme of your site, you need to find a simple and efficient sorting system. If there are too many categories and sub-categories, the site will lose clarity.
